Monroe shocks are pretty good, but In my opinion, those shocks will act like helper springs. That would be like air shocks. That is not a grand idea at all. The shock mounts are not designed to support any weight.

Exactly. Those are Monroe's load compensating shocks, designed to provide added support for sagging leaf springs or heavy loads. Problem is, the upper shock mount is not designed to carry any significant load. Use of air shocks or these load compensating coilover shocks can result in the shocks ripping right through the upper mounts.
Stick with KYB's, Edelbrocks, Koni's, or Bilsteins. Monroe has nothing good to offer for classic Mustangs.

I hhave been running air shocks for 14 years on mine and have never had a problem. But those monroe load levelers are junk, it cost just a little more for new leafs. so if your just trying to get rid of the sag its a better idea to replace the leafs.

oh ok all good info. i didnt know anything about these shocks thats why i asked. i did know the upper supports are not strong to carry a heavy load such as airshocks etc. so i think i will continue my search.

dont say you werent warned....my first mustang a 72 fastback had them they punched thru the floor on the right hand side wasnt even crusty back there either

yep, no airshocks and no shocks with helpersprings either (like the one in your picture). if the leafspring is shot, replace that instead of adding heler springs.
remove the rear seat, then you'll see what you're dealing with in terms of strength ;-)
use something tried and tested! like the ones mentioned above. The KYBs are cheap compared to all the others and I don't find them too bad. quite stiff but since I never had anything else in the back in my car (apart from halfdead crap) I wouldn't know the difference. I have Konis up front and love them. If I had more money I would have put Konis in back as well

no need to worry they are coming off very soon the only reason they were left on their so long is because all the car has done is sit in the garage for 7 years.
