1967 Won't roll backwards - transmission?

Hey guys. i am looking at a decently rusty (but not a heap) mustang that needs a carburetor on the engine, and it will not roll backwards. I am wondering if this is a transmission problem, and if it is, would it only affect reverse? I am thinking of picking it up to get running and play around in (no title so it wouldn't be a daily driver). he is asking $500, I can't see going wrong with that price but I did want to know if I need to op out for a new tranny. The current tranny is an automatic, if that matters. thanks guys

Could be a few things, did you put the trans in neutral? the shifter could be out of alignment with the trans also and not actually in N. Brakes could be locked in that direction, wheel bearings, etc.

As long as the engine isn't running, once the parking pawl is released you can push the car in ether direction regardless if its in R, N, or D. It certainly sounds like a bad trans (mechanically).

drop the drive shaft.

crawl under the car, on the transmission there should be a lever that goes into the car, this is connected to the transmission, on the transmission the "lever" should have 5(?) clicks, try each one and push the car see if any of them work (i think the 3rd click from the front puts it in neutral)

not sure why is would roll forward though, the transmission could be locked up
