Default What radiator cap for 200ci motor?

I have a 1965 with a 200ci motor. The motor is completely rebuilt with "sleeves" returning back to it's original 200 ci status.

The other day ( day before Thanksgiving), I was leaving San Diego in about 70 degree weather when I hit HORRIBLE traffic. After a few minutes the car started to get hot and the car started to stumble and I had to give it a little gas to keep it idling. I think the stumbling was vapor lock.

I have a Autolite 1100 WITHOUT a spacer.

The cam on this motor is a larger one than stock.

The motor rebuilder's said I've increased my horsepower by about 40 horses.

I have a three row aluminum radiator.

4-blade fan and NO radiator shroud.

180 degree thermostat.

How do I keep my car cool and running at the right temperature?

QUESTION:

1. The radiator cap is 13 pounds...should I keep it or get a 9 or 11 pound cap?

2. Should I get a 160 degree thermostat, keep my 180, or get a 190 degree one?

3. Is a 5-blade fan with a shroud overkill?

HELP!!!

you should use the stock lb cab and use the stock thermostat...you dont want 160....i would add a fan with a clutch and a shroud...but a shroud will help more than anything

Hmm, if you are using the correct thermostat you shouldn't be having problems. I have a 65 mustang with the 200 inline 6 engine and it runs extremely cool even in 100 degree weather. I don't have a fan shroud on mine, have the stock four blade fan and am using the stock radiator. I also have the autolite 1100 carb and don't run a spacer. I will have to double check what the radiator cap is but I know I had ordered a new one about a year ago through CJ Pony Parts.

The higher the pressure cap the higher the temp before you system will boil over, but you need to keep your car from getting that hot to begin with. Adding a fan with more blades and a shroud will help quite a bit. Getting a fan with a clutch will reduce the drag of the fan when you're at higher speeds and cooling is being done by forcing air through the radiator with speed.
