Default '65 Mustang dim high beam headlight

Hello:

I have a '65 Fastback. Both headlights work on low beam, although light on the passenger side is slightly dimmer (the difference seems worse when the engine is off, and the lights are just powered by the battery). When I hit the button on the floor for high beam, the driver's side headlight gets brighter (as expected) but the passenger side headlight gets dimmer. There is still some light, but it is very very dim. Both headlights are new.

Has anyone had a problem like this? If so, what was the solution? Any suggestions as to how to troubleshoot this problem? I have a multimeter, so I can check for electrical connections. However, I'm afraid that the multimeter won't find the fault since some current is getting through.

Cheers
Mike

P.S. Thank you to all of you who responded to my last question about the turn signal not working. I put in a new turn signal switch today and it's working fine.

It sounds to me like a bad ground.

I suggest getting the headlight relay kit from RJM Injection. Its a nice setup. I have it on mine. It takes the load off of the switch and provides full voltage to the bulbs.

You could swap the bulbs and see if the issue stays on the same side or moves with the bulb. A new bulb can still be defective.

that's one of the most common issues with those cars. nearly all of them have it. the passenger side light has a ground wire, where the driver side doesn't. that ground is missing like tx65coupe says
Find it, attach to ground and you're good to go.

once that is fixed and you don't want stock but bright headlights, check out that relay wiring and swap those sealed beam bulbs with H4 headlights (there are plenty of 7" conversion kits). I took mine from a Mini cooper conversion kit, they are very common around here and fit well and are cheap

Kalli makes a good suggestion with the headlight conversion. Another option is Sylvania Extra Vision in 6024. They are the same wattage as most capsule bulbs. I have them and am happy with the results. Stay away from blue coated super white type bulbs.
