Question Holley 1940 ?

I just got a rebuilt Holley 1940 to replace the old one that was on my car, which has a 1968 engine. They both have groves in the bottom around the butterfly, but the later cars didn't have the manifold spacer with the groves in it so I'm wondering if this is correct? The gasket seems to just cover it anyway. Also was told to save my dashpot from my old carb to reinstall on my new carb, but the old one doesn't have a dashpot. Is this also normal? One last question, the studs for the old carb are larger, and the holes larger in the old carburetor than the new one. The new one won't fit down on it, so does that mean it's just from a different application since other cars used these carbs? If so I guess I should just drill it out a bit? Thanks for any help!
