I agree, the 4100 is the finest 4V carb ever offered. Getting hard to find a decent one, though.

Last summer I worked with a Summit 600 cfm carb on an upgraded 289, and was very impressed. Easy to install, excellent response and power curve, and shares the important features of the 4100, such as one-piece body, and annular discharge jets in each venturi. For tuning, which was not necessary, it takes off the shelf Holley parts. No 500 cfm version, though.

I agree with what's being said a 670 is WAY too big. I just bought a new carb and decided on a Holley because the 650 Edelbrock I have is too big and has been giving me issues. Holley recommended their 570 and said that was more than enough. And that is on a 302 with a lumpy cam so it should be more than enough for a stock motor and would give you the option to add more performance parts down the road.

in case you haven't decided on it yet here's my opinion on this so you can add it up :-)
the autolite 4100 with that weiand 8124 runs great on a stock 289 (i tried).
The weiand is a fantastic intake for stock 289 full stop, so carburetor choises are in my opinion just as 2+2 and Ox say:
- either a rebuild 4100 (or get one and do it yourselves) (480cfm)
- do not go for 670cfm on stock 289.
- as 2+2 already mentioned, double pumper and auto trans is not the best choice in my opinion
- I hear great things all over about the cheap summit 670cfm carb.
Comes with vacuum secondary (better choice for trans), automatic choke (which is good for daily drivers or street driven stock cars anyway) and since it's got annular boosters (wohheee great throttle response) you can get away with the 600cfm

Hey, all. Thanks for the input.

I purchased the Summit 600cfm carb and the Weiand 8124 intake. Should have 'em both Monday, and even though I've never done this type of work, I'm feelin' good about it.

Thanks a lot!
