upgrading a 67 289
I've got a 1967 289 that I've put a 302 in. what I'm thinking about doing is putting a modern 302 boss powertrain in it. i really know little to nothing about cars besides what i've read online and in post's. when picking a tran's and rearend, should i look for parts that go with the motor or car? how do i start shopping for the right parts for what i need to start this upgrade. i really do want a modern mustang but i love the classic look too much.

Without knowing what you're getting yourself into...you're reaching a bit too far. Modern mod-motors ('96-up 4.6/5.4/5.0) are MUCH wider than any motor that was available for your car. Installing one would require significant work to remove the shock towers, which would also require you to use a different front-end setup. You'd also have to figure out how to wire the motor up to work properly, because the 5.0's are variable valvetrain and absolutely have to have computer controls.
Is it possible? Sure, anything's possible with enough money. But there are easier ways of making 400+hp in that car.

I'm not really looking to just upgrade the HP. I'm going for the wow factor. i could just put a 351 in her and upgrade everything else and save a lot of money. but why go the easy way out? I have the money just need to know where to start. and of course i wont be doing the work. but i don't know who i would do this kind of work. possibly a restoration mechanic would be a way to go? i figure it should cost 30-40k to get the parts and cost to have then installed. like i said before i want a new mustang but i love the classic look too much so why not have the best of both worlds.

What you are asking for is a 55 gallon drum full of whoopa**. Find someone that you really trust in Cali to do the work and then use their expertise to help you make decisions on what you want to do to the car. Have your check book ready.

You do realize that at the end of the day you'll have justified paying for a brand new Boss302? And that the modern car will still outperform the classic in every way? If you're ok with that and have deep pockets, have at.
