Default OPINIONS: Fix or replace 67 doors with that pesky rust problem in the lower corner.

Hi guys,

Both of my 67s show signs of the pesky, small, bubbly, rust problem that plague Mustangs on the lower corner of the doors.

I plan to have my 67 coupe painted in the fall, and I am wondering what the best approach would be?
1. Replace the doors with new ones? (aside from the rust, a previous owner must have used some sand paper on the inside of the doors, which has knocked down some of the grain)
2. Trust that the body shop can make a LONG lasting repair and keep the doors?

Anyone have an opinion or a "wish I should have done X" experience with that rust issue?

Thanks in advance!
Dan

I vote for fixing. Patch panels are sold for this type of thing. Once the bad part is cut away, you can address the inner shell with some POR15 or Rustoleum or whatever.

I replaced mine mine with the complete doors from mustangs unlimited. The only issue was getting them to line up took some love but they are perfect.

Nothing fits better than the original doors=panel...PERIOD! if there's one thing I've learned throughout my effort, after-market reproduction panels take allot of work to get them to fit "properly". Repair your door, it's simple, especially for the shop.

I have repop doors and they fit real good. The only issue i had was the size of the mount bolts being smaller. But i heard lots of folks cmplain about replacement doors so it's hit or miss i guess. If you can get the doors re-skinned it may be better overall - it's going to depend on the price point differences.

I would look at reskinning them. My doors had a piece of metal welded over the drain holes in the doors which also covered the lip for the door skin. I had to replace both doors and the advantage there is it had an extra cross brace to reinforce the door for safety.
