Default first drive with new motor...BOOM!

So I took my new 347 out for a drive today and heard a lil ticking...no big deal probably exhaust leak or a lifter...sound got louder so I turned it back around and headed straight home...bout 1/4 mile away. as I pulled up to my garage something started to bang...really loud....fak!

I've always had a great fear of this happening.... Sorry about your engine and I hope it isn't real bad.

The short block was assembled by TRE performance. Yes this is the one that somehow did not come with a rear main seal. It was still making oil pressure...right at 50 psi. Completely feels like something in the rotating assembly. Ill have a better idea when I take the oile pan off but its banging like a rod bearing or maybe even broken rod? I was too pissed to start tearing into it. didnt even make it a block down the road. But thats what tells me its the bottom end. If something wasnt built right tolerance wise im sure it would go right away. Unusual part is it started ticking first like a lifter got loud and then started banging. shut it down as soon as I heard the banging, like a hammer hitting the oil pan.

My first 302 I put in my old 67 did that. It started ticking and then started knocking, and then it shot part of the rod through the pan.

well might have some good news...took off a valve cover and one the rockers was completely loose. hopefully I can tighten it back down and everything will be OK. I think it got so loose that it was bangin the valve cover...*fingers crossed*
