carburetor shooting gasoline after replacing gaskets
hello all i have a 65 mustang straight 6 that i started working on after browsing the forums i got inspired and took out my carburetor because it was leaking.. i replace the pump diaphragm which had a cut.. when i took the top off to check the other seals i did not realize that there were the ball bearings.. i did some research and i saw the diagram for the autolite 1100 thought it was close enough and used that to put the ball bearings and weight pump discharge ..
BTW my carburetor looks like the autolite 1100 but it does not have the dashpot of the other side. what carburetor is that ? when i put the carburetor back i am having gasoline shoot up and spill... has anyone ever encountered this ? i was told that it was because i put the balls bearings and the weight pump discharge ball the wrong way any one has a diagram to show me how to put it back? btw i only took off the top of the carb off i did not detach the other pieces thank you very much all |
I'm no help with rebuilding carbs, but why not save yourself the grief and just get a new
Edelbrock? They're really not that expensive and your troubles will be over. I tried multiple times to rebuild that damn Autolite and each time it would leak again in 3-6 months. My Edelbrock has been working now for 5 years, no problems. EB says on their website that their new carbs are compatable with modern gas. I think the rebuild kits have the old style gaskets that get disolved by fuel oxygenators and ethanol that weren't in gas in the 1960s. Save that old carb in a box in case you sell your car to a concours guy. |

That's weird. It appears to be an Autolite 1100...BUT...it is missing the anti-stall dashpot. I have never ever seen one without it before.
