Default bad exhaust smell in the car

so if I drive with my windows down i get a lot of exhaust inside the car. i cant seem to dive it over 5 miles without smelling like a mechanic (no offense). I dont have any openings in the firewall. the exhaust does dump under the car though. is this my main problem.
it gets so bad sometimes i feel im going to pass out.

The exhaust pipe should exit behind the rear valance or outside of the rockers if a side exhaust; otherwise, the exhaust is channeled up through the trunk and into the interior. The fumes are minimized when all windows are closed and the front vent is opened.
Best,
Al

Can you turn the exhaust to dump out the sides? I use side exits and get no smell at all. Also, are you certain you are not running rich?

yes all the seals are in new and in tact. i think i will mess with exiting the exhaust out the side. I had it that way once before and liked it but it hung too low.

I had a 67 coupe with axle dumps and I hated it cause of the same problem your having, if your pipes are axle dumps just use the existing pipe and run it all the way out the back, thats what I did. But side T/A exuast is cool

Try tightening your headers. I have the Headman Headers as well and if they start to come loose I get the smell.
