Default Galaxie 289 Engine and C4 transmission into 1967 Mustang

Why wouldn't a 1965 Galaxie 289 with a C4-74 transmission fit in a 1967 Mustang?

Have an opportunity to get one at a reasonable price and am wondering if I should get it.

the engine will fit...depending on if the c4 has a large or small bell housing will make a difference...mustangs use small bell housings with 157tooth flexplates

If you are referring to the one listed on DSM craigslist - being a '64 engine it will be a 5 bolt bellhousing block and not a 6.

Yep, that's the one...

What is the relevance of 5 bolt versus 6 bolt bellhousing block?

changed: I'm a dumbcluck. I just saw that you answered the comment by the guy before you. Thanks!

Actually I wasn't answering the guy before you. In about 65 or 66 they changed from a 5 bolt bellhousing to a 6 bolt (block and bellhousing changed). It was mostly to reduce vibrations and it increased the bellhousing strength as well.

Beyond being a 5 or 6 bolt there were larger and smaller bellhousing for different cars. Irrelevant of 5 bolt or 6 you will need the proper bellhousing. The 6 bolts can come off of 302's as well I believe and are relatively easy to come by. The 5 bolts weren't produced for too long and are harder to find.

To be honest, if it were me I would get a 6 bolt block. Additionally the one on craigslist is some what over priced in my opinion.
