Default Edelbrock Performer RPM - less than 200hp

Hi all,

I have not posted in quite some time since I have shipped my Mustang overseas to enjoy when I go back to the old continent for vacation. In the meantime, we have started a complete repaint and I am pretty excited! More to come.

The reason why I am posting here is because I had a big surprise when the new mechanic dynoed the car and stated that it was barely making 200hp. I had it dynoed a couple years ago in San Francisco and I had 269hp at the rear wheels.

Full spec is in my signature, what could possibly go wrong?

Also, I came across this great article that states that ... the 200hp number might be the right one:

http://www.mustangmonthly.com/projec...t_results.html

How come: 1/ my first mechanic said 269hp 2/ everyone online says 300+ 3/ a reputable magazine and a reputable mechanic says less than 200?

Cheers!

Here it is with the new paint!

if they have a holley 670 street avenger put number 69 jets in the front and number 70 jets on the 2nd and then dyno it again...Im not sure which holly you have now but jet size maybe wrong if the car changed altitude a lot during its move is the air thinner now???

maybe the issue is the dyno...which dyno system did you use before and which one did they use this time? 69 hp loss would be very noticeable drive it first before you worry about the numbers...if it feels like a stuffed pig then check back into why the hp is down.

Ps did wonder boy leave the E-brake on when he did the dyno pull??

Make sure that they have your weight correct as well. After a Google search you should be at about 3,300-3,400 pounds. My car is listed as 2,900 on my title, I don't know why. I think if you're car is at different listed weights it will affect the dyno readings as well.

Dynos can be made to say anything you want them to. They're tuning aides anyway, not a yard stick for epeen.

Realistically, prolly like 240-250rwhp guesstimate. Just run it at the drag strip, mph tells a lot.

Thanks for the feedback, I will work with the mechanic to understand what is going on.

No one commented on the article, it seems pretty well documented and they don't go past 200 rwhp with roughly the same setup.

Don't feel bad my 375hp engine only laid down 219rwhp on a dyno. The tunner did win engine masters a couple years ago and did tell me is dyno was very conservative. You need to take it to the track and see what she does there

I gotta say that article makes me scratch my head. 200HP with aftermarket heads, a cam and headers with a proper sized carb? I know for a fact that Shelby got over 300HP with not much more, heck a stock K code did better than that article 45 years ago?
