If it's a 6, just get the Autolite replacement.

Welcome to my life. There really isn't an easy solution to your issue. Especially if you want "some kick". Right now I am following 67mustang302's advice, and running a stock Autolite, but my history with them is Not Good.

If you follow JAGGUY's advice, be prepared to do some reading; there isn't a "recipe" you can just follow to deal with the shortcomings of the small log Autolite combo.

Hi,
The "kick" you're seeking will only come from a series of parts and how well they coordinate, not simply throwing a carb at it. The site suggested by Jagguy is a good place to learn what others have done to improve the performance of their 6s.
Have you optimized what you have? An improvement might be had with a major tune-up including insuring your carb is working correctly (correct idle), distributor advance rate is working properly and the initial timing is correct. Also, knowing that compression and engine vac are within specs.
Happy Motoring....

Good advice from kenash. This guy KNOWS what he's talking about. For me, I've been running a Holley 1940 1-V in my 65 convertible for the last six years. Rebuilt it once. It's totally dependable and easy to work on. I too want a Mustang with more HP, that's why I'm now restoring a 69 Mach 1. :-)
