So i was flogging on my car

And I think I killed it. I am pretty sure I spun a rod bearing. I am going to take it apart soon.
Last winter I added some trick flow 170 heads and they are great. I would go ahead and buy a 347 short block but I think since my heads are new and I dont want to redo the whole thing I should prob. stick with a 331. Unless I can make these heads work good. will they be too small?

I am currently running a flat tappet cam but I will now switch to a roller set up too.

Small for optimal, but they're decent heads on a 347, port volume is somewhat meaningless. On the TFS heads the intake valve is closer to the port opening, so the same volume port is actually shorter with a larger cross section. Get a custom hyd roller grind from Ed over at FTI and it'll make tons of power and run great. And his cams run really quiet, easy on the valvetrain.

You can also have those heads ported..

Yes, port them.

And then put them on a Dart Sportsman block....363....500+hp on pump gas.

I would love to do the 363 but that would put me at about $7k after a cam grind and porting the heads. A little more than I want to put into this car. I was looking at the ATK 347 blueprint from summit for $2399. after that and a cam and the head work i should be about $4k

I have had really bad luck with local shops here. I have no faith in any of them to port my heads. I am close to So Cal so if there is a good shop over there im not opposed to driving. Any Suggestions?

Ford Strokers does really good shortblocks from what I've been told, ask in the 5.0 forum here.

If it's a modest 347 with a custom cam, prolly won't need to port your heads even (which eliminates having to send them to someone competent).

I run those heads on my 331 and I wind it up to 6000 regularly. It runs great :D I don't think you'd need to port the heads unless you really get crazy with a 347 build. That custom cam will really help though.

I was looking at the Ford strokers shortblock. I think I am going to go that route. I'm gonna order the basic 347 set up and then order a custom cam..
I will need to get lifters, any recommendations? I know they are a little on the expensive side. Since a am coming from a non roller block I also need the spider to retain the link bar lifters. Is there anything that I am forgetting. I want to order everything at once so I can do the swap in one weekend.

If you get a cam from Ed go with whatever lifters he advises. I ended up using the Lunati link bars.

I emailed Ed and although I am sure knows a lot, his customer service is truly lacking. He basically states through email only, place an order and send me money then I will spec out your cam and send it to you. He left a lot of questions un-answered.
