new to the forum i need help with my '64 1/2
Hi I have a 1964.5 mustang notch back, it has a 1980ish 5.0 and a 3 speed auto... also it has the original drums, as you may guess Im looking for a five speed swap and discs for all 4 corners. I have spent my life working on Datsuns and basically you could swap parts from any number of cars... what im wondering is, what is the least expensive route for the 5 speed conversion and disc brakes? thanks in advance

What level of performance?
And be careful with least expensive route when you start talking about muscle cars. That can end you up with a bunch of crap parts that cause problems. Pretty much if you want quality, you have to pay for it.

5 speed out of a mid 80s to 92 mustang, you will need the bell housing as well. YOu will also need a flywheel from an older mustang. 157tooth, 28 OZ. imbalance. then you will need a pedal assembly and a cable or hydraulic clutch set up. and a clutch. that pretty much about it

Spend your cash on a really high quality set of front disk brakes and leave the drums on the rear rather than four wheel disk brakes. If you are more interested in performance than economy, I would suggest you stay with the C-4 automatic. If you are looking for economy, the 5 speed is the answer. Just a lot of stuff to do (bell housing, flywheel - 50 oz, not 28 oz., pressure plate, clutch plate, pilot bearing, clutch pedal, equalizer bar, engine equalizer pivot, frame equalizer pivot or cable clutch assembly, etc.
Best,

I found that swapping to the t5 improved both performance and economy.
It let me run a 3.80 (4.11 would even be acceptable with a cobra spec t5 with .63od) but provides a nice OD gear for use on freeway. with 3.80s I turn about 2,300 rpm in 5th at 70mph

I stand corrected. The fact that you have a newer engibe, you will need the 50 oz. Imbalance flywheel. The 28oz is for the older model 289/302 engines.
I for one love the t5 I installed in mine, however, I drive so much sometimes I wish I had a auto

I have a May built 1964 CVT. I've converted to both a T5 and front discs, as as well as other leaps. Any questions?
