All 289/302 owners w/ c4 auto and 3:20, 3:25 or 3:55 gears
I have 3:00 gears w/a limited slip rear end and was considering swapping out gears for 3:20 or 3:25 just for a little more "low end" (I would keep the original set stored). Was just wondering how you like those gears on a highway? How driveable at higher speeds? Too high rpm for a c4?
Is this a complicated/expensive or relatively simple procedure?
Thanks

Hutch is right, but you might want to re-think that with the price of gas today. But, with an aod, you might be able to cruise at 70 at turning around 2 grand. My Mach1 turns around 2K at 70, and I get well over 20MPG. But, at the launch, it is neck popping.

i have a 67 289 gta coupe with c4 auto and 3.25 gears. Although my car originally came with this set up, it has no problems with gas milage, (but who cares, these cars were meant to be driven hard!!)and it has good top end to low end torque ratio so its the best of both worlds. i have gotten it to as high as 125 with only about 3800 or 4000 rpms which is really good. if you want to really liven up the car, put a set of 3.73 but expect to go slow on the highway

I have a C6 sitting behind a 302 with the 3.25's in a 1967. I'm closer to galons per mile then I am mpg, but then again what do I expect it's not as if I keep my foot out of it. Runs around 3200 @ 70 mph.
I swapped from somewhere around 2.55ish I think (my memory is fuzzy), picked them up from a junk yard. Been so long I can't remember the price, but it wasn't much and was an easy swap for a high school kid who didn't know much at the time. I just remember it was a very nice change at the time when I was trying to run the 1/4 against friends.
Had a friend with a 1965, 3 speed that he put 3:55's in. Was way to low, he could start and burn tires in 2nd. Took me easily from a start but capped out at about 90 when I'd blow by him. He soon ripped that rear end apart, went back to something normal.
As I keep getting involved in longer distance driving events, I'm reallying thinking an AoD would be a nice change. Hard to give up my built C6 though. (I kept ripping apart C4's back in high school when it was my only ride - long time ago).
