I have a 68 Coupe with factory console, it's pretty beat up and the previous owner hack it up good putting in a single DIN radio.
I am thinking about just taking it out. What all would need to be replaced to go back to the stock look without the console? I would like to have a idea before I pull it out.

the big housing that holds the shifter. the indicator plate and chrome bezel.

you can also modify your housing

the shifter so it can hold your shift lite.

So there isn't any difference in the shifter itself?

there is a difference. the non console shifter has a bracket to mount the lite. the console shifter has an arm for a plastic rod to move the lite otherwise they are the same.

I'm almost certain you can use a console shifter with the non-console bezel. The little tabs don't stick up too far. If it won't, please don't go hacking it up to make it fit. It should be easy enough to trade with someone looking to install a console.
