65' 9" rear end

Yeah, you're really limited with those 65-66 models. The only cars that came with proper width 9" rears were 65-66 Mustangs with 9" rears (and possibly Falcons and Comets of the same year).
It's easier to get one from Currie, but probably cheaper to get one out of a truck and have it cut down for you.

If you plan on doing road racing, auto cross or any serious cornering, especially with a non floating rear disc brake, then I'd recommend going with a Speedway Engineering floater rear end. You can get a built to fit full floating rear axle set up for not too much more than a Currie setup.

Otherwise, Currie.

Look for a mid-70' Granada with a 351W motor. It will have a 9" that will fit under your Mustang with no changes. It does have larger center hubs on the axle shafts and larger center hole in the brake drum. Aftermarket wheels generally will fit without issue, but original rims will not. If you want to retain original rims, simply use the axle shafts and drums from your existing 8". They will fit into the Granada housing without modifications.
