Bring some extra oil too. At every stop, pop the hood, check for leaks, fluid levels, smoke, weird sounds etc.

I drove my FE 428 (7.0L) Mustang from El Paso to north of Dallas and back in a week. 1500 miles round trip. I basically did the trip and "rode dirty", I didn't bring anything except an extra quart of Brad Penn oil. It's hard to get from your local gas station. Somewhere along the trip my cobra gas tank cover was left at a gas station...I was filling up and a mob of people came over to look at the car and I must have forgotten it on the ground and drove off.

If anyone has ever driven on I-10 near El Paso....you'll know that there is nothing 50-80 miles in either direction. That was the scariest part of the drive. But as you can see from the pic below...I kept trucking.

Tell us how you did.
