My first thought is fuel related. What’s said above seems accurate actually. Had a 65 Chevelle that did this and took 4 months to find there was a pinhole in the gas line under the chassis. After it was patched it was fixed.

Replace or clean the tank and filter.

If this is not it I think coil is getting too hot. A 10 dollar ballast resistor will fix that

Thanks guys I will check that
Question- I just checked voltage on the wire going to the + side of the coil with the key on and it was 12.5 volts, does that mean its not going thru a resistor or the resistor is bad? Should be between 6 and 8 volts

Ok here's today's story- took the usual drive waiting for the car to die and it didn't let me down, died right around the 30 minute mark, had an extra coil with me (the original one. Out of 3) thinking my coil overheated I put the old one on and it didn't make a difference.
Looks like its getting fuel
Checked for spark at coil 1st time no spark 2nd time some spark but not bigand blue 3rd time no spark
Then put main wire back on coil and removed other end from cap and had what I think is weak spark

Side note-drew sky , oreillys wants $30 for balist resistor wire

Yep sounds like an ignition component is on the way out. It could likley be a condenser. It might not be a terrible idea to switch the whole thing out to electronic ignition.. Im not sure what your budget is..

Here is what my MSD setup looks like testing good...No way would a stock system look like this but it should still jump 1"no problem.

Good one Gun Jam! Forgot all about the condenser. It could be heating up and shorting for sure. If it was open then the points would pit up but not kill the car, so it probably is shorting out with heat.

Default A note

Make sure your fuel tank is vented properly. Just a thought.

sorry for the long delay
Gun jam was right, condenser was "overheating" and shorting
drove my usual route, timed so it would die back in my driveway (already bought the new consenser) changed it out in the driveway, car started right up and i can now drive where and as far as i want without worry -freedom!
thank you everyone
