Car died going up driveway, cause?

You can test the alternator with a volt meter. Simply test battery voltage with the car off it should be high 11s or 12v

With the car running the voltage should be mid 13s.

If the voltage is the same or lower with the car running then the alternator is bad.

No clue what the carburetor float is so I couldn't tell you if it's brass or phenolic. Will have to google and check it out when I get the car back.

The type of float you have isn't necessarily reflected by the type of carb you have. It depends more so on what kit was used when the carb was last rebuilt. Some kit makers offer one or both types of floats regardless of the carb model. You can probably get a very bright flashlight and look through the fuel bowl window to see what you have.

Oh great, I'll definitely do that!

Gotcha, I'll take a peek with a flashlight and see what I find and if possible take a photo as I won't be sure what I'm looking at.
