Default Upper Stone Guard 67-68 left and right mounting holes

My upper stone guard has three mounting holes across the top, left, center, and right. The center hole mounts to the hood latch support with one of those "self retaining bolts" (picture attached). The upper stone guard has identical holes on the left and right hand sides in order to use those same self retaining bolts.

However, the fender extensions for the headlights do not have holes for those self retaining bolts. (see attached picture of the driver's side as an example)

Questions: Should I just drill holes in the left and right fender extensions so I can use those factory self retaining bolts? Or is there a better method (non-factory) for securing the left and right sides of the upper stone guard?

Thanks!
Dan
