Hey Guys,

Anything negative to say about Pertrnoix? I am looking at getting standard (model #1281)

Does it pay to buy their brand coil? Do I need to buy their brand distributor cap or can I use a standard cap? How about a rotor, standard rotor?

I am looking to make the stang a little more reliable. Last year I hit a snag with it dying at 45 mph after it got warmed up for a bit. I bet it's gas but I want to upgrade the ignition now.

I hear a fair number of complaints about the ignitor taking a dump...I just figured it was because a lot of people run them. My dad got one for his Austin Healey and it took a crap after a month or two.

I run MSD not sure what you are looking to spend but I ran the pro billet dizzy with an A6 box daily for about 12 years and it went through 2 a6 boxes in that time. The new A6 Digital box appears to be great im still on my first one since about 2014 or 15 I think.

Did you notice a change with keeping the other stock ignition parts? Do you feel there is a need/benefit using their other brand of ignition items?

I have always preferred the Ford Duraspark II ignition system. It is a reliable as an anvil and easy to install, (although not as easy as the Pertronix). I had a Pertronix setup on my old Fairlane and it died on me out in the middle of nowhere and right then and there, I made up my mind to run factory FoMoCo ignition systems. Carry a spare coil and box and you'll never have to be worried about being stranded again.

I didn't notice any change in anything, I think I had to readjust the timing a bit, but other than that. no big deal....

I've been using a v1 pertronix ignitor for about 10xxx miles and have had no problems at all.

I installed a Pertronix 1 years ago. Stock cap and coil. Adjusted the timing a bit and that was it. I have heard some bad about Pertronix II units.
