71 351C Mustang clutch slips after just 12,000 mi.
Hello, I put a new clutch in my car 8 years ago, and only drove it about 12,000 mi. But now if I try to go too fast the clutch is slipping badly, though otherwise drives fine. Engine puts out less than 400hp, trans is a 4-spd Toploader, rear is 3:91. What can be wrong here? I checked the adjusting rod and it's not too tight, it does have a little bit of play as I think it should.
I put close to 60,000 mi. in my other Mustang and the clutch is still going strong. Is it normal for a clutch to last just 12,000 mi. because of hp?? I wouldn't think 400hp is too hard on a clutch, maybe I'm wrong. Please advise.. Thank you

back off the adjustment until you have about a full inch of play and see if it cures it. The clutch can be adjusted too tight and still have play in the peddle if there is slop in the pedal and linkage.
