Bop I've never heard this before, is this an issue even if I didn't paint by the terminals? It came with a red cap, replacements from msd are 40 bucks so I thought I'd save myself some money.

i have painted countless caps and never had a problem, therefore, no, it it is not a guarantee that it will cause the terminals to arc at best as you claim.

Even if the paint I used is conductive, I really imagine that the gap I left unpainted plus the wire silicone boots would protect against arcing. Maybe I will even put a skinny strip of electrical tape where the paint ends just for safe measure. I don't feel worried about arcing, despite believing it's happened for some people.
