Default single to dual exhaust - safety note

Just completed a dual exhaust install on my 66 coupe. Noticed the rear brake flex hose to the rear-end is dangerously close to the exhaust on the drivers side. Did some surfing, and found the dual exhaust has a completely different brake line config from the single exhaust. There are only two shops that I'm able to locate that are familiar with this safety issue; Mustang Barn and KAR. Mustang Barn has a simple brake line extension, using correct dual exhaust body bracket and hose, same as the GT, where KAR requires you purchase and replace the entire tunnel brake line.....about a $30-40 difference in price, and twice the work.

I went to several other shops including American, and Mustang Plus. Needless to say I got the "deer in the headlights" response. If you're doing a single to dual exhaust upgrade, seriously consider making the necessary changes to the rear brake lines. You will thank yourself later.

6Mustang6,

Thanks for this info. Dual exhaust is one of the next steps I plan to make after I get mine back together.

What'd i say? Anyways, You can also Buy the brake parts at Mustangs unlimited. I wondered if putting a heat shield on it, would keep it safe, but at the end, i just decided on turn downs, but, if i feel like it, i might change out the lines soon.

i would just do it right and toss the heat sheild idea out the window, just get the new lines and spend a weekend finishing it up right so youll never have to worry about it again
