Default 302 Engine swap for roller 302

So i was tearing down my 75 302 2bbl while getting excited to install my new edelbrock cam, car intake, electronic ignition when all of the sudden i took off the heads and BAM! theres a gash in the side of my #5 cylinder about 1/8 inch in. I cried for about 6 hours and debated jumping off a bridge. Then opted to just look for a new block/ engine, i dont want to bore it out because i think the gash is to deep, and i dont think i could put a sleeve in so i want to try and get an 86 or newer 302 roller engine that is running, take the fuel injection off and install the 1500 dollars worth of edelbrock parts on it so i dont have to let them sit on my shelf. Does anyone know if this would work? i dont know a whole lot about roller blocks, i know that the crank is stonger and its a roller which is always plus for friction. Im just wondering if my performer cam will work okay with the roller block? Theres a couple 89 and 91 302 engines for 400-500 bucks with 100,000 miles or less(30,000 on one of them) just want to know what you guys think.

-Will my performer cam work with the roller 302 block? or do i need some special roller cam?
-should i go with a roller engine or just a find an earlier 302 that may have to be rebuilt?

Any suggestions would help. im depressed, and want to drive my damn mustang.(67 coupe) Thanks guys

You need a roller cam if you are going to use roller lifters...you may be able to use your cam and lifters but I'm not sure. To get all the benefits though, roller cam and lifters would be best. You might ask the 5.0 guys too.
