Hello everyone-
I've been poring through the posts here, but haven't found an exact answer. My son just inadvertently shattered the rear glass in my '00 GT. Is the glass replaceable itself, or am I looking at having to replace the whole top?

I see that American Muscle and some other vendors carry repalcement windows with statements such as "Replace that old scratched and milky rear convertible glass with a brand new tinted glass rear window for a crystal clear view of the road", which makes me think they are replaceable- but then again, I have searched the web for an hour now, and still can't find a solid answer (body shops are closed today due to being a holiday).

Any help you folks can offer would be greatly appreciated.

That's an easy one. On the '94 to '04 Stang, the back glass IS definitely replaceable. I am a convertible top tech and this is a common service of my shop.

The conv. top cover comes over the top of the back glass panel on its way from the front and overlaps it. In order to replace the back glass, you have to remove the convertible top cover from the back of the car forward to about halfway to the front. This allows you to remove the back glass panel and install a new one before you reattach the conv. top cover and reinstall the rear bars to the back bulkhead.

Those who have an '05 Stang or newer must replace the whole conv. top cover. The back glass is integral.

you need to call a auto upholstery shop, i am a shop owner and would be happy to give you some pointers if you think you would like to do it yourself. i would say you should have someone do it for you, you need some tools for that job that most people dont have at home. mainly a good staple gun and some stainless steel staples.if you want some advice PM me with and i will give you my phone number and a place online that you can get the part.
