Affects of cold on convert top, and rear window defrost kits?
I live in wichita ks. We can have DAMNED cold winters here, and a lot of frost which can be heavy. I do have a garage, and have been keeping the 91 vert in it. But a few times, I have had to leave the car out over night because of dog issues....How hard is the frost and cold on the vert top? Am I killing it by doing this a few times a year?
Also, does anyone make a rear window defrost kit for the mustang? Something I could put in my mustang?

the top should be fine with the cold/frost as far as temperature goes. i wouldn't let any snow pile up on it though, because of the weight. also,(not that its warm enough) but dont put your top down when its really cold because then it will be prone to cracks/creases. and as far as rear window defrost for the 91, im not sure. i know they make them for the newer models though.

Interesting issues. I would assume your top is vinyl and not cloth. The vinyl should be OK, the issue would be the weight of the snow/ice and it's effect on the frame. If your model year came in with a defrost as an option, you could see if a replacement top is available with a defrost. Warning..I know for my model, I can't replace the rear glass...I would have to replace the whole thing which is around $3K. I am not sure if there's an aftermarket defrost you could install. You could consider buying a car cover as a layer between the top and the elements.

I have seen rear window defrost kids before, just did not know if anyone of them would work form a 91 vert.
I know to keep it out of the snow, will certainly do that. I also do not intend to drive it in the road salt and gravel they usually put down after snow....want to keep my mostly factory 91 is good shape....Yes, its a vinyl top.

TPony,
Doing late model ('05 to '12) convertible top installs in my shop in Central Florida all the time for less than $ 2,000 before sales tax. High quality. Work guaranteed. Better warranty than Ford factory top.

Scan1959, that's good to know. Fortunately (knock on wood) I have not had to replace the darn thing...while stationed at Fort Lewis, WA a tree went through the rear window of a 10' Mustang and my neighbor told me insurance paid about 3K for the whole thing.
