Default Rear view mirror lights and door light buttons

I have a newly acquired 1990 LX Convertible. Just replaced the missing rear view mirror but when I plug in the two harnesses (from the top of the
window and the plug on the mirror) the two lights work all the time.

After checking the switches on the mirror, they work, but there is 12V to both outer wires on the plug all the time and the center wire is a ground.

Is there a relay to control the mirror lights? Are those lights supposed to come on when a door is opened?

Any help would be appreciated - I just took out the two bulbs in the mirror until I have more ideas.

Default

I am not familiar with your model year, but on mine(2003) you can turn off and on the mirror lights by rotating the headlight switch to the right and left. Maybe the headlight switch was left in the on position. This would be an easy fix for you. Hope this helps.

Default I will put a bulb back in and try all the positions on the switch

Thanks for the suggestion...without an owners manual and no knowledge of
how or what is supposed to happen with those lights..it is a real mystery.

Default No high beam position on headlight lever?

My headlights go on with a lever on the left side of the dash...either running lights or headlights. Did not change the interior lights or the rear view mirror lights.

Lot of electrical gremlins still in the car: no dash lights, flashing Air Bag light, drivers seat does not go up/down and the outside mirrors goes in/out but not up/down.

I cannot find a high beam light switch? Need an owners manual...

Default High beams come when headlight switch is pulled out

Odd way to do things but it works....

Next is to pull the instrument cluster and change the probable burned
out bulbs and R&R the Air Bag bulb...will disconnect the battery first to
disarm the air bag...while apart, I will check the gas gauge and the extra
PCB mounted on the back and hope I can fix the over Full problem without
dropping the tank.

Getting closer everyday to having all the problems with the Fox fixed...

Question Have the air bag sensors now - need their mounting spots

Can anyone show a picture/drawing of the air bag sensor mounting spots in the front near the headlights?

I have Ford service manuals on the way but would like to get started...

Mirror lights working fine - even ordered LEDS now that all is fine with the dimmer switch installed.

Still have the gas gauge to deal with and the speedo cable end broke, but new cable is on the way.

Forward and backwards on these fixes at times...

Default LED's do not fit into mirror - new mirror switch defective

Another step(s) backwards - or at least sideways.

The new LED's are too big to fit into their receptacles and go back flush in place. Both too fat to fit in and too long...you would think they (vendor) would try them before adding this to their application listings?

Am getting tired of these Ford Mustang and convertible problems - things do not fit at all - do not work...new mirror switch is much worse than the old one...when going R it stays going until you switch it back...

Zero quality control...
