Default install a 1994 conv. top onto a 2001

Will the complete conv. mechanism bolt right into a 2001 from a 1994?

I don't think so, as they're 2 different body styles.

I would be surprised if they did. Why would you want to though? Seems like a wasted effort.

Default convertible success

The top from a 1994 fit onto the 2001 with no problems. Just in time to we have had 5 inches of rain the last few days in CA.

How hard was that to do? I have the opportunity to buy a 2000 top for my 1999 but I want to see how hard the swap would be.

Takes a little time but pretty easy. You have to take out the back seat and the side panels, the rear speakers, rear seat belt retractor. Next is the rear cover behind the rear seat, and the 12 or so nuts that hold the back window in place. Instead of making a mess taking hydraulic lines off I took the cylinders off the top mechanism, you have to have the top facing straight up to expose the upper pivot on the ram, if you are putting a older top on a newer car like I did they did they use different rams but just make sure you put the plastic washers in the right place for the rams you are using. there are two spring one on each side that have to come off, it might take two people to take those off. If they are broken, which is not uncommon of course you will have to buy new ones. There about 6 or eight 40mm torx bolts holding the top to the body. The upper most one is slotted so don't take it out all the way it will help when installing the new top. Tighten all the bolts holding the top to the side of the car on both sides first, then install all the nuts along the rear window. As your tightening the window nuts slide the side nuts along the rear widow rearward as you tighten. Make sure the top will close when done and after you are done leave the top up for a few days so it will stretch to your car. You might have to adjust the rear widows to seal properly (I didn't have to). to adjust the rear windows all you do is tighten or loosen the bottom bolt of the window reg. to move the window away or towards the front window ( I am assuming the front window is adjusted properly). To even the gap between the front window you have to loosen the bolts that hold the window to the guide and pivot it until the front and rear window seals are parallel. Then reinstall the seat belt retractors, speakers, and side covers. I hope this helps.

Well crusin I needed a new top and I bought a wrecked 94 that just had a new top installed before the accident. It was a lot cheaper and easier to do it that way than to buy a top and install it yourself. There are a lot of parts interchangeable between the 94-04 Mustangs.
