1996 convertible top leak

So I bought my 1996 mustang gt a couple weeks ago and I knew there was a leak in the, what i believe to be the factory convertible top. It's not a rip or tear, it's from the back. By the back window. The canvas layer that the glass window is connected to goes inside the main canvas cover (the piece that goes over the whole car). It seems like the piece that goes "inside" isn't sealed right. Water runs down the back of the car and drains down the sides through the flaps then into the back seat then into the trunk. I'm assuming it's just not sealed right. I could be wrong. Can anyone shed some light on this subject for me?

First, I would have a helper spray the top with a water hose and climb in the back seat with a flashlight and try to see where the water is coming in. These tops are known to have "wear holes" to the right and left rear window on the bottom. I use a product called Storm Sure to repair wear holes and abrasion spots in my top. Also, check your drains. To be quite honest, if it is a 1996 with an original top, it just might be time to replace it. Convertible tops are wear items that need to be replaced when the time comes. Good luck.

It's a stock top but new, just replaced. I didn't do it tho. I just bought it and they guy before replaced it. No wear holes. Those two flaps on the back are not sealed at all like I think they're supposed to be. I could be wrong tho

I do not believe that they actually seal but more or less overlap with the front part of the top. When they are pulled tight, water has a hard time entering from that spot.

Oh ok. Well good to know they don't actually seal. I'll probably end up taking it down to a top shop to get it looked at. Thanks for your help man.

I have the same issue on my 95. Except the water is having a very time entering the cabin and trunk from it.
