Default no radiator reservoir on my 67 289

I noticed a while back that I have no radiator reservoir on my 67 v8. There is a thin hose that comes out of the top right (if looking from the front of the car) of the radiator and points straight toward the ground, that's it. Anyone have pics or instructions on setting one up? What does it connect o and hang from etc...I also looked in my catalog and couldn't find one...maybe I'm blind...All I see are washer bags and plastic washer fluid holders, not reservoirs for the radiator...

Mine came with a wire typy basket thing that I had to drill one hole in the inner fender to mount it. Then, the bottle just sits in there, and you run your hose to the botttom of the reservoir. Here's a pic of where I mounted it, and the height that I mounted it. Mine works like a charm. Check with auto parts places. Best I remember, I got mine at Autozone.

Glen, thanks for the quick response and picture. that is what I figured. Maybe I'm nuts, but those bags are advertised in my catalogs as washer fluid bags, not radiator reservoirs. Are they the same bags?

Here's what I mean:

No, No.......The black bag is the windshield washer water. Look next to it and you will see the white reservoir tank.

I just looked more carefully and answered my own question, you're not connected to the bag, you're connected to the white bottle. that makes more sense...Thanks!

You could always go to a junk yard and steal a reservoir tank off just about any car if it isn't too big to fit in that spot.

yup! and if your neck's red enough, a soda/milk bottle and duct tape will work!

i'm looking at the chrome one's that mount on the side of the rad. i had that same prob plus where the cap screwed in was seperating from the top of the rad. i ended up boiling all of the coolant outta my system one day and it shut the car off. i barely got it running long enough to dart across the highway and into a gas station, where i learned a VERY important lesson!

NEVER ATTEMPT TO FILL AN EMPTY RADIATOR THAT WAS EMPTIED BY EVERYTHING BOILING OUT OF IT! THE COOLENT/WATER WILL HEAT UP INSTANTLY AND SPLASH BACK OUT OR YOU WILL GET MASSIVE STEAM BURNS!

just thought i'd share that with you guys!

I have heard of people using the windsheild washer bag as a reservior, i would think it would melt the bag. Its very simple to make your own reservior

Hi, does this type of system require a different type of rad cap?

All modern caps are designed for this application. Just be sure you get one rated at 13 Lbs.
