Default Performer Carb, location of spring return?

Hey guys, just installed a performer intake and carb on my 68. Just wondering if anyone can tell me where to connect the spring return plate. The directions from edelbrock show to connect the plate to one of the main bolts that secures the carb to the intake manifold. Specifically the driver side front bolt. When I did this and connected the spring to the linkage, it clearly interfers with the movement of the linkage. I was thinking maybe this should go somewhere on the intake manifold. Any thoughts? A photo of an installed performer would make my day. I have looked through the old posts and faq, with no results. Thank you for your help.

I'm sure you will figure it out, but here's a pic anyway.

Thanks so much that is where I was thinking it would work best. I appreciate your help! Your pic shows your manifold has a grey painted finish, do I need to do this, I did not get the chrome or endurashine, am I asking for rust or a nasty look later?

update: tried the way your pic shows and the plate needs to stick almost straight up for it not to hit the linkage. Do you have the edelbrock adapter plate installed?
