Default Carburetor Gasket

When I pulled my carb there was one between the spacer and carb, but not intake and the spacer.
Shouldn't there be two gaskets? One between theintake manifold and carb spacer and a second between the spacer and the carb. Thanks.

There should be one between the spacer and the carb, but not between the spacer and the intake manifold. Actually, you don't need any gaskets at all. I used to run with a spacer that I cut from a piece of 3/4" outdoor plywood without any gaskets and it ran just fine.

well plywood is soft so it would seal, i would think a gasket is in order anywhere two metal surfaces meet to ensure proper seal

That's true if the surfaces are not perfectly flat. The phenolic spacer is perfectly flat.

Thanks guys - didn't see any evidence of leaks, but I'll add the gasket when I rebuild just to be safe.

Yeah, the paper gaskets don't take up any space and may fill in a lonely little space that was created at the factory so you may as well use them if you have them. They are generally not necessary though.

I run a gasket between the intake and spacer, and between the spacer and carb.
