Default Does anyone regret painting their Mustang Black?

I was all set to paint my car phonecian yellow at the end of my rebuild, the car has been yellow since I bought it in 1986. But now I am thinking of taking it back to the original Raven Black that came on the car. We got the car in primer last night and it is straight, as straight as I could have ever hoped for. I own a black pickup and I know the pitfalls of this color but I don't plan to drive the Mustang unless roads are dry and gravel free. Has anyone painted their Mustang Black? Glad you did? or do you rue the day?

my first mustang was orginally gold and i had it painted black.... it was a good loking car and even better with the chrome wheels but then the new wore off of it and i started to see the labor intense color that i picked. everytime i drove it, it was dirty, everytime i wahsed it i saw swirl marks, it was probably waxed and buffed about everythree weeks just to keep it nice looking in my eyes (and proabably needed it everyweek) it got to the point where i didnt even like it anymore becasue i just didnt like to take care of the paint, and on a bright and sunny day all i saw were swirls! and i know there are a million reasons you guys can give me for the swirl marks but it is a labor intensive color!

Ugg, eyah I know the sunny day swirl marks all too well off my pickup. That is why I was leaning towards Phonecian Yellow (almost off-white). But damn, black cars with shiny chrome are beautiful. I just don't know what to do. It isn't like this car is a daily driver, but I also want to enjoy the car and not be a slave to the buffer.

do it, it may suck to do the upkeep, but you probably will never be completely happy because you will always be thinking... "man.....i wish i did paint it black....i can just imagine it now..."

ya you will always have that "i wish i did this instead of...." on every car you build but if you dont know about polishing (im talking wool pad, foam pad, de-swirl, and hand wax) you could very easily pay someone alot of money when it comes to detailing your car.

The only thing with a black car is that the body and panels need to be perfectly straight because the black paint shows all imperfections! I bough my car as is...it is an original black jade car and it currently has a repaint of the same color but the guys doing the body work did an excellent job. The car is straight but they did a great job. Make sure you have a good body man if you want a great looking black car. Any waves in the panels will show up in the sun. There is nothing better than a black car done right but there is not much worse then a black car done wrong.

I'm currently struggling with this too. My car is currently white and I only driveonnice days and isgarage kept. I don't mind the cleaning part - kind of the fun part. Spray Mcquires wax and done in 20 minutes.Only thing holding me back is I had a black truck and remeber every light scratch it had stuck out big time. Chips easy to touch up the light scratches really shown.Don't think I was much help but as I said struggling with same issue. Black look great with some nice chrome wheels. What the worst case - another 6k or so for another paint job if you don't like it.

3m medium professional buffing compound, takes out scuffs/scratches on my black car. i coudl take sandpaper to it, and it still clears it back up, its just as long as you dont go through the clear. That 3m stuff is the best ive used.-Jon
