Classic Mustang as an Investment
I know for most of us having a Mustang is a labor of love.
But I was wondering about the "investment" side of things. Is it, indeed,a good investment? How much do you figure your car appreciates a year? Do you think you can get your moneyout of it if you ever decide to sell?
I was going through Hemmings as it isn't unusual to see an owner claiming to have spent 20 or even 30 thousand in restoration while their asking price is much, muchless.
And finally when the baby boomers have passed (during thee next 15 to 20 years) do you think the Mustang market will collapse... orkeep on going higher?

I agree- of course it depends, in part, on how much you've paid and what you're done to the car. I was just in a shop that makes $100,000 restomod Mustangs on a frequent basid I have no idea if the value - in this case - will go up or down over time.
i can assure you that there will always be a market for classic cars, especally muscle cars. im 16 and i got my first mustang a couple of months ago and i can tell you from experience that tons of people love my car and its actually in what a lot of people would consider crappy shape. there will always be a market for them but i wouldnt plan on making very much money on a car like this because they usually require much more matinance than a boring car. but what do i know, im only 16
I know I'm putting in way more money in my Mustang than I could get out of itif I wanted to sell right now.
However, I believe in 5 years or so, I will be ahead of the game (although I'm ceratinly not doing this to make money).

that sounds funny ;-)
I just bought mine 9 month ago and no way I'm gonna sell it in the next 9. I have no idea if it gained or lost in value.
Time will tell ...
Generally I think if they're well kept then they will be a good investment.
My brother even made money on buying Porsche 928's and selling them 10 years later.

here is the thing. Yes it can be an investment, but you have to wait. If you go completely concourse it'll be worth more and sooner. However you decisde to build it you won't make money for a long time. If you restomod maybe even longer. However, there are always stupid people out there that are more than willing to spend their money on you!
Of course, time will tell, but for the average Mustang, maintenance on them eats deeply into any gain in value they may have. Now, a 428 Cobra Jet or a Shelby of just about any year will obviously appreciate more than the average Mustang. My mustang has been babied ever since I have owned it, but and it is worth less today than what I paid for it minus the new paint job. Bottom line is......No, they are not a good investment. Gold and Mutual funds are better choices for investments.
