Default Fixing hole in quarterpanel

I just scraped off 1 pound of bondo to reveal this nice cover up by the previous owner. How should i go about fizing this? fabricate a new patch and weld it on there with mig or just get a new quarterpanel skin?

Ouch! I have seen worse, but that is pretty bad. Judging from all the layers that qp has had added to it I would be thinking new panel all the way. Most likely there are other issues under there and with new metal all you have to deal with is your weld. Still alot of work but you know it is done right with replacement. Trying to fix that panel might turn into a real mess that you don't realise all your problems until it is too late and painted. Just my opinion, and I remind you, I am no body man.

If that is the only rusted section on your quarter then i would get the wheel flair patch from cjponyparts. I just put one one two weeks ago and it fit fine. If you have other rusted areas on the quarter i would do the whole skin. i did my passenger side quarter skin in the fall and it was easy and came out perfect. So eitehr one would be fine.

I had the same issue on my 68 and I opted for a skin and an outer wheelwell, both of which were needed and I used what was needed off the skin. Behind the wheel, lower quarter was fine on my originaland I decided to keep that part because theres details that arent on the repop skins. My input is to get a skin and use what is needed. And possibly a outer wheelwell

Keep sanding the quarter. I thought it was only my flair as well, but aome additional sanding revealed that the whole quater is shot so I have to do the whole skin.

yep i would keep sanding and make sure youdont have a nightmare under there. also if the skin is rusted out that bad what about the outer wheelhouse? its gotta be bad also, i would do a patch if you can but a complete qtr is the way to go if there is other bondo in it!
