CANT KEEP THEM ON!!!
So I think I have ordered about 2-3 sets of emblems for the fender of my 67 and everytime they eventually fall off. Is there a "correct" way of putting the lettering on the fender? I ordered the whole set of letters(mustang) and they againone by one have fallen off. Even the pony fell off from the passenger side, but I think someone might have taken that one. Everytime that I get new ones I also get new barrel nuts and same thing. Maybe I'm putting them in wrong, but is there even a wrong way to put them on?
The fasteners are called barrel nuts. You press them in the hole on the fender, then push the emblem tit through the barrel nut. The emblem tit makes the barrel nut spread out and holds the emblem in the hole by pressure. You may need to order a barrel nut kit the next time you order emblems. If that doesn't work, then you may need to put some JB weld on the back side of the barrel nut.
I think I'm gonna try the JB weld because I have used new barrel nuts everytime and they still fall out. I wish I would have jsut filled the holes and painted them! it would have looked alot cleaner IMHO and I wouldn't have to deal wit this, but it's too late now! Thanks guys
These barrel nuts are awful. I drilled holes in the fender last night for the 289 "V" and cant get the barrel nuts on. I mangled one trying to push from behind the fender with a wrench. It's just very awkward to get good leverage reaching behind. The second one, I opened the barrel nut a bit before putting it on, but its not as tight as I'd like... Why can't they just use nuts??? I think I am going go to Home Depot and get some nuts... I'll wrap the nipple in tape and put the nuts on....
