Default '66 Exhaust

We just got exhaust put on our 1966 '289. We told them nothing quiet, but not something that will blow the garage walls down, and they put on Magnaflows. They're really quiet. This is the first Mustang we've restored, so is this a normal choice, or is there a better sounding exhaust to put on em?

flowmasters are prolly what you will want. do a youtube search and listen to some of the videos.

if you want to go louder, you could go for glasspacks.

I think the glasspacks fall into the"blow the garage walls down" category, as well as some Flowmaters(single chamber)

Im going for as loud as possible, glasspacks dumped out the sides

I've just put some flowmaster serie 40 with delta flow under my '66 with 302, and am very pleased with the sound, a low civilised V8 rumble.
Other Mustang owners adviced me the same thing.

But don't forget, what sounds good to me, might sound bad to you.

The shop I always use say Magnaflow are calm with a tough sound.

Flowmasters are loud and noisy

And Glasspacks are the s***

Well magnaflows there are some single chamber models if I remember correctly...but I hate them, just me, never have liked the sound. I swapped in some Flowtech headers, with Flowmaster Super 40 mufflers and it sounds like pure sex (can I say that on the forums?). They are nice and loud, and the resonance isnt enough to kill you inside the car, actually its quite nice, I like to listen to it instead of music. You could try some Cherrybombs, never used them myself. Try youtube, and flowmasters website, to listen to them.

I have flowmaster 40s on my 351W and it makes a real pleasent but still loud sound. I mean they are quite enough but can still be pretty loud when I get on it... I have youtube videos where you can here it in my sig and the one I am posting now:

i had 40's series flowmasters on mine they were quiet at idle and mid throttle and sounded great at WOT...magnaflows are basically a new age glasspack but wont were out(get louder) with age like glasspacks

...both sound good in my opinion

heres a vid of mine(the rattleing sound is not a leak i hadnt welded them on yet)
this is stock manifolds with 2" pipe and turndowns before the axle

http://s59.photobucket.com/albums/g306/mav75/ named (40s flows)

cost me $60 to put this exhaust in;-)

I really like my Flowmaster Hushpower II's. They're not as ridiculously loud and raspyas 40 series can be, but they still have a very nice tone under power and they absolutely scream above 4k. Catch is, they're expensive.
