hi guys,
my new rear shocks are too long. the seller is saying its because my car is lowered. Its only down half inch at the rear so Im calling BS on that one.

I need to get some measurements to show the maximum compressed length of the shock absorber. this is basically the available space for the shock when the axle housing hits the bump stops. because the shock runs off at an angle its not a direct 1:1 relationship.

I dont know for sure if the measurements on a fastback and coupe will be exactly the same but I imagine they will. anyhow this is what i need.

1) ride height measured from the center of the wheel arch.
2) bump stop to axle housing clearance
3) vertical line from shock plate to under floor.
4) horizontal line from that point across to the top shock mount
5) confirmation that this is actually horizontal not off on a slight angle.
5) the angled line between the top and bottom shock mounting surfaces.

if anyone has rear shocks off the car, a compressed length would be real handy...measured between the outside edges of the rubbers (ie where they would contact the underfloor and shock plate).

Please help!!!
the seller is being reasonable and will supply shorter shocks. i still need to make sure that they will fit.

BS, I had my mustang real low before and never had any issues of shocks being to long. Where are you purchasing the shocks and what type of shocks?

You shouldn't have any issues getting the shocks in even if it's lowered. It's a Mustang, not a truck.

 

10 1/2" compressed and 17 1/2 fully extended from shock end not stud end

just so i am clear, is that a measurement from the outside edge of the inner rubbers...ie the mounting surfaces?? (see pic)

the old ones that were on it were about 12.5" compressed. the new ones are Spax adjustable ones. They are about 1.2" longer. bought from local suspension place that does Spax, Konis and other performance shocks. The only reason i am concerned is that i am softening the rear springs.With the existing springsthe bump stops could never come into play. its just too stiff. after the change they might.
