Default Thoughts On Oil

I have a question about what oil I should run in my 65.

I was planning on running Mobile 1 in it, so I started the first few oil changes on the new 302 running regular Mobile clean 5000. I was planning on switching soon to Mobile 1. At how many miles should I do this?

Also, I was thinking that maybe I would be better off just running regular Valvoline and changing it more often.

This is a 1990 roller 302 with aluminum heads.

What would you guys run?

What type of driving will the car be exposed to most of the time? I run Mobil 1 5W30 in my DD and change it once a year. The car only sees roughly 8000kms in that span but all of it is city use. No freeway whatsoever. The car is 16yrs old and the oil looks virtually the same coming out as it did going in. No top ups either...Mobil 1 is a solid lubricant and has become inexpensive relative to other full synthetics. I recommend it wholeheartedly and run the 10W30 in my 'Stang. Nothing but praise, it should work well in your car. You could run Amsoil or RP but I highly doubt you'd notice any difference over the longterm with the exception of a lighter wallet...

It is a weekend cruiser. It will not be driven hard, but will do the occasional burn out and see some mild hot rodding. It will probably get about 3k or so miles a year.

I don't want to run Amsoil. I don't support MLM products like that. It doesn't matter to me if its the best around. Besides, I would like to run somthing that I can pick up at the parts store. Thats why I was thinking Mobile 1.

In that case it would be a fine choice bro. It's a good oil that can withstand a lot more that you or I are gonna throw at our motors. I kick my Stang in the *** every time I'm out in her and she seems to think very highly of Mobil 1. I've kinda' grown out of burnouts though, now all I want is visceral acceleration without the smokeshow;-)

I'm the same way. I do get on it a couple times every time I drive it, but don't do many burnouts.

I wonder how soon or at how many miles I should start to run the M1. I have heard that your not supposed to run synthetic oil in a new motor until its been broken in some.

i've always heard that the synthetic is too slippery to allow the rings to seat within any reasonable time. i'm pretty sure this is why some newer cars have a 1200 mile initial oil change - to get rid of the break in oil and switch over to synthetic.

Thats interesting. I had heard that it was better to wait until a few thousand miles were on the engine.
