Default 67 ride height?

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a 67 convertible. The car underwent a complete restoration about 2 years ago which included new springs front and rear. Since the car has been on new springs for 2 years, I'm assuming it has settled in. Still, the car seems to sit very high, especially in the front. It measures about 28.25" to the top of wheel arch. I have been able to measure a few 66's which are around 25" +/-. Does anyone know what the 67 ride height should be? I like the look of the 66 ride height much better, and would like to lower my car to that height, but I'm afraid all the 1" lowering springs will not be enough.

What is the difference in a 66 vs. 67 spring? can a stock 66 spring be installed in a 67?

I've read a lot of the archives on lowering springs vs. cutting springs, and it seems like the only way to get the "custom" height I am looking for is to cut the springs. (this is just a weekend cruiser, so I'm not up for the big $ suspension swaps)

Thanks!

My car sits at 27". It is sitting on 15x7 wheels, 245 60 tires, with stock coils from the factory I'm pretty sure.

Default It's on the net...somewhere

I've read this somewhere on a website. I think I was doing a search on suspension. The stock height for a '66 is about 26.5" from floor to fenderwell.
Try Dodgestangs site or a search on google. If I remember where I saw it I'll post a link.
Don't forget when you cut coils you raise the rate of the spring so the car ends up stiffer. And if you do cut the springs do it cold (like with a grinder or sawsall).
Any chance you are getting a bind in your suspension that is keeping it up?

If it's nice enough, and you can, take it for a drive. You might be surprised at the difference it makes. I think coils should settle pretty quickly, couple of weeks at most. I don't know, but I do know Scott is right about cutting them, use a saw or grinder, and take equal amounts off eack spring. Or you could go with some 620 springs, and do the Shelby drop, that should get you an inch or so.
