i saw a video that said the 67' mustangs had tilt steering. does anyone know if this was standard or an optional thing?

I could be wrong, and it won't be the first time, but I don't think they came out till the 70's. You can get tilt columns from Flaming River tho, but they are kinda pricey in my book.

 

My 67 Convertible has Tilt Steering. I believe it to be the original steering column so i assume that they did have tilt steering in 67, but it was definaltly a optional thing.

 

I know that 69s had a tilt-away setup for easier access into and out of the car...my cousins Mach1 has it.

 

Well, I said I wasn't for sure.

 

In 67 it was called a tilt away. Not only did the wheel tilt, a vacuum powered motor would swing the wheel up and to toward the center of the car when the drivers door was opened. It was an option that my 67 FB is equipt with.

Oh, so thats the vacuum motor and door jamb switch i've been wondering about. Mine doesn't work. Now im going to see if i can get it to work.

 

The engine's out of the car, going through final asembly. It's 390 block with a 428 crank, .030 over Ross forged pistons, making it a 416. Also 390GT heads ported and polished with SS 428CJ valves and FPA tri-y headers. Topped it off with a Edelbrock preformer RPM intake with a 750 holly double pumper. Hopefully it will be in the car in a couple of weeks.

 

so james, does your tilt away work good. I checked mine out, and ran some hoses to it. It works as long as you take the pressure off by lightly holding down the steering wheel. The mechanism inside the column must be binding or dry and dirty.
