Default Is my car really overheating?

During the ride home the last couple months, my aftermarket autometer temp gauge is saying 220-230 degrees on extended trips in the sun. However, when I get home, I dont see anything coming out of the radiator tube, a drop of antifreeze at most. The cap is rated at 13 pounds, and Ive never seen steam come out of it. I have a 2-row, non aluminum radiator, that doesnt seem to be the original. Im using a 50/50 mix with a bottle of water wetter thrown in. It only seems to get hot after about 15-20 minutes of stop and go traffic with the a/c on. At idle, it grows steadily, but not quickly, but after accellerating a bit, it can gain 10+ degrees and never go back down.

My question is, could my temperature gauge be reading incorrectly, or maybe the sending unit is picking up a hot spot?

Would getting a 3 row radiator help any of this if it is in fact overheating?

Is it mechanical or electrical?
The electric ones are known to send false temps...but autometer is a good brand.

electrical. Just an 18 gauge wire from the sender to the gauge.

Could be the gauge. Get yourself a mechanical for a more accurate reading. But beyond that - from one Texan to another - that 2-row isn't going to cut it! My car always ran cool on its original factory 2-row; but despite that trouble-free history, I stepped up to a 4-row when I added A/C a couple years ago. The gauge should obviously come first (to determine if you indeed have a problem). But if I were you, I'd go ahead and start setting aside a few dollars for a 4-row from Dallas Mustang. It just makes good sense in all this extreme heat we have. Also - you may want to consider a little less anti-freeze (than 50/50). Maybe a 70% water 30% anti-freeze mixture, and add a bottle of WaterWetter for good measure.

Should work just fine, and if you want to help it even more, get an elec fan. It frees up some HP also.

Mine was doing the same thing. I talked with a pro about it and he told me it was the weather. Sure enough, I haven't seen the problem since that 100 degree plus day.

You would be surprised at how much a 3 or 4 row will help. How about this August weather in Texas????Man, I can't believe the rain and nice cool weather.

Either youre being silly, or you live in a different Texas.

Its 98 today with 45% humidity.

Im not really sure about that 4 row from mustangs plus, it just seems weird. What 4 row would you recommend for my 67 in the $200-$300 price range.

The one from Dallas Mustang that I mentioned in my earlier response.
