Unable to view (most) images

Unable to view (most) images
So on about 90% of the threads I look at, someone will embed an image and it will only be displayed like this:
[IMG]local://upfiles/27669/2873FDAF1C474860933E04071B6CD7E2.jpg[/IMG]
That text is all that appears, no image; however, other people in the thread comment on the "image" as though they are able to see it and I am not. I have "view images" enabled in my User CP. Anyone know what's going on??
