underdrive pulleys

What exactly do underdrive pulleys do as far as power gain? I read somewhere that it makes a difference in engine component rpm's. Does this not adversly affect engine components?

slowes down your assc,, but you have nothing to worrie about ,,a have hi powered sound system ,,i have no problems,,,steeda pulley ,get the street pulleys [&:]
