Default New Internals

Going to be buying a bare block, a 351windsor

what are some of the better internals i could get for the money?
nothing custom made but could someone say specific brands?

i will eventually toss a s/c on it so keep that in mind. and i want to run 400hp off of it atleast without the s/c
currently have 4k to spend for internals

Well to be honest the stock crank is no joke.It will hold up to quite a bit of abuse. But if i were going aftermarket i would look into places like summit they offer a wide variety. If you do go aftermarket only go forged.

i know of eagle as a good company. they are through summit. and, as gmkiller said, only go with forged.

If I was in your place I would contact a company like http://www.jdsperformance.com and talk to Dave. They can put together a nice kit, made up of all the top brands. This is where I purchased my 347 stroker kit. It came with Eagle "H" beams, a set of JE custome domed forged pistons, a 4340 Forged crank, Total Seal ring's and Clevite bearings. Total cost to my door was $1695.00 The kit was rated for 1000 HP.

And please have the block mag'd, hot tanked and sonic tested before you use it. I have seen too much money wasted by a bad block. If you are buying or getting it used, make sure that you put in a proviso, that you can return the block if it does not check out.

hrmm, buying the block used 150,000 miles on it already

is that too much? i can still turn it down (its a complete 351w runs, but leaks oil)
i'm only going to use the bare block from it...

getting the whole engine for $250
thought it was a good deal so...
should i keep looking?

$150.00-250.00 is about the right price. But did I not read you are going to toss an S/C on it? That means running some boost and making some HP. I would want to start with a very good block. Have it sonic tested. If the wall thicknesses are OK (and the machine shop can tell you if they are) I might go for it. I think you said you had 4K set aside for the internals. They should not exceed 2K, leaving you 2K for a block. FMS has the M6010-M351 Race block for $1795.00 + machine work =2K. Or maybe the M-6009-A393 short block complete for $2995.00. 9.7/1 C/R. Forged steel connecting rods with full floating pins w/ hypereutectics. It is a 351W with a stroker crank, taking it to 392 inches. (I would probably toss the Hypers and go forged, selll the Hypers on Ebay)
My son happens to work for Ford, his wife works for Ford Motor Sport, so I might be able to do a bit better than that for you.
In short, start with a good foundation. A good solid block.
