Car won't start ??????
Hey everyone, I have a 95 GT that I am having a problem with. The car sat all week without being started with no problems in the past before to speak of. I tried to start the car Sunday evening but it just clicked like the battery was dead. So I opened up the garage and got out the batery charger and let it set on the battery for about an hour or two, so I tried it again but it still just clicked like it was dead. I tried all the lights and everything seems like it is up to snuff. One question is could it be the starter wire loose or is there something else on the car that has a relay or solenoid that controls all the electrical? Cause when I try to start it it just clicks and all power is lost for about 2 seconds then I hear a clicking noise from under the hood (sounds like on the passenger side) and power is restored to the car. I am new to the Ford vehicles and am lost when it comes to them.
Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks Jason |
RE: Car won't start ??????
I had a similar problem with my 96 gt. It turns out that a few of the wires from the battery cables were touching a little metal piece of the hood. So, although the lights and everything worked, when the starter sucked all those volts, every thing shut off. I suggest cleaning the terminals on your battery, and make sure the cables are touching these and only these. See if that works, if not, I have some other places you could look.

Well that was the first thing that I did due to seeing oxydization on the terminal. I cleaned both terminals plus battery posts. and I didnt see anywhere that the terminals are touching anything other than the battery terminals.

Did you try a different battery, or maybe jumpstarting it with another car? Sometimes batteries lose the charge necessary to start the car, but will keep the lights and accessories on. What does a battery tester tell you?

RE: Car won't start ??????
I dont have a battery tester other than a volt meter but I havent tried it yet. That will prob be the firs thing I do when I get home today.
Any other suggestions if that shows to be good? |
RE: Car won't start ??????
Dont now if it has it being a 1995 but my 91 model has the sloenoid on the firewell, if your has it try jumping the car over from there to find out where the problem is coming from, if it wont jump there its definitly in a wire on the battery side.

Its probally the battery. just check it with the voltmeter

Your battery could have the 12+ volts needed to run all the lights and radio. If one or more of the bettery cells have died, the car will not have the AMPS to turn over the starter. It's the AMPS, that get the starter cranking. That is the reason Batteries are rated in Cold Cranking Amps.
